How to get started with ICP?

Updated: Mar 18

There are several steps to get started with ICP, the native token of the Internet Computer Protocol. Here is a brief overview:

  • First, you need to create an Internet Identity, which is a secure and anonymous way to sign in to dapps on the Internet Computer. You can do this by visiting identity.ic0.app and following the instructions. You will need a device with a security authentication feature, such as a security key or biometrics.

  • Second, you need to get some ICP tokens, which you can use to stake, transfer, or participate in governance. You can buy ICP from various exchanges, such as Coinbase, Binance, or [Kraken]. You can also earn ICP by contributing to the network, such as running a node or developing a dapp.

  • Third, you need to access the Network Nervous System (NNS) app, which is the main interface for managing your ICP and interacting with the Internet Computer. You can do this by visiting [nns.ic0.app] and signing in with your Internet Identity. Here, you can create a ledger account, stake your ICP, vote on proposals, and explore the network.

  • Fourth, you need to learn how to develop and deploy dapps on the Internet Computer. You can do this by visiting [sdk.dfinity.org] and following the tutorials and documentation. You will need to install the DFINITY Canister SDK, which is a set of tools and libraries for building and testing dapps. You will also need to learn Motoko, which is a new programming language designed for the Internet Computer.

I hope this helps you get started with ICP. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
